As the run-up to the NX’s March 2017 release draws ever smaller, MCV has announced, based off of information given to them by sources close to Nintendo, new games for three well-known existing IPs: Mario, Zelda and Pokémon. The plan is to have these games release within the first 6 months following the NX’s launch.

The Zelda game is of course The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which will be released on both the NX at launch and the Wii U, and the new Pokémon game will be put into the hands of long-time developer of the franchise, Game Freak. As for the Mario title, nothing is known about it as of yet.

MCV also stated that the NX will receive third-party support from SEGA, Square Enix, Ubisoft, Activision and Warner Bros.

It is also important to note that the recent speculation that the NX will be both a handheld and home console is all correct, according to MCV‘s same sources.

An executive who has experienced the NX firsthand had this to say: “It’s a nice bit of kit, a bit of a novelty, but a good one.

“It won’t appeal to PS4 fans. Nintendo seems set on trying to upgrade smartphone gamers. That’s going to be a big job for the marketing department.”

The NX is expected to be fully revealed by Nintendo at a later time in the year.
